Data Center
A data center is a facility used for housing a large amount of electronic equipment, typically computers and communications equipment. As the name implies, a data center is usually maintained by an organization for the purpose of handling the data necessary for its operations. A bank for example may have a data center, where all its customers' account information is maintained and transactions involving this data are carried out. Practically every company that is mid-sized or larger has some kind of data center with the larger companies often having dozens of data centers. Most large cities have many purpose-built data center buildings in secure locations close to telecommunications services. Most colocation centers and Internet peering points are located in these kinds of facilities.
As data is a crucial aspect of most organizational operations, organizations tend to be very protective of their data and data centers. A data center must therefore keep high standards for assuring the integrity and functionality of its hosted computer environment. This is depicted in a data center's physical and logical layout.
Before the dot com crash, millions of square meters of general-purpose data centers were built in the hope of filling them with servers for web hosting and application service providers. However this demand never came true.

System Center Data Protection Manager System Center Data Protection Manager is a software product from Microsoft, constructed to help IT professionals modify the Windows environment. It is part of the Microsoft System Center set of products and integrates disk-to-disk and near-continuous data protection for accurate recovery of Windows server workloads. Previously known as Data Protection Server, DPM is Microsoft's first entry into the near-continuous backup/recovery industry. It also uses Microsoft's Shadow Copy technology for continuous backups. Data Center Power and Cooling Getting into A New Generation of Computing Many organizations and companies are currently performing important data
center infrastructure upgrades and replacements to encourage the spreading
demands of
higher performance
and higher availability requirements in association with data center coalition
actions. Sadly, many data center managers slowly realize a new set of obstacles
associated with these projects -- the emerging environmental deficiencies
(data center power and cooling, in particular) of existing data
centers. Driven mainly by the improvement of new blade servers designed to
minimize space use, but require at least twice the amount of power as good
old rack mounted servers, and therefore they require more cooling, data center
managers must quickly undertake the current and future data center power and
cooling
infrastructure,
or face serious disruptions to service. 1. Supply the data center with the capacity to power and cool every rack to the peak enclosure density. 2. Supply the data center with the ability to power and cool to an average value below the peak enclosure value, and use supplemental cooling equipment as required to cool racks with a density greater than the default average value. 3. Supply the data center with the ability to power and cool to an average value below the peak enclosure value, and use rules to allow high density racks to borrow adjoining underutilized cooling capacity. 4. Supply the data center with the ability to power and cool to an average value below the peak potential enclosure value, and spread out the load of any proposed enclosures whose load exceeds the design average value by separating the equipment among multiple rack enclosures. 5. Supply the data center with the ability to power and cool to an average value below the peak value, provide a special limited area within the room that has high cooling capacity, and restrain the location of high density enclosures to that area. Each of these alternatives mentioned above has its set of advantages and disadvantages. However, the bottom line is that data center managers must plan and seriously reconsider the design of the data center power and cooling design to meet the growing demands of the new computing equipment. For more information use Aperture to utilize power and cooling in today's high density data center.
Due to decreasing fossil energy resources, growing energy prices and elevated public awareness to environmental issues, the sufficient use of energy is more important today than ever before, especially for data centers which account for around 2% of the world’s total energy utilization and consumption and are expected to overwhelm the carbon emissions of the airline industry by 2020. With an extensive research program in green technologies, combined energy management and control systems, best in class power saving technologies and productive building systems, Siemens is at the focus of reducing the global carbon footprint and improving energy productivity. Siemens as a global company is extremely devoted to an efficient and sustainable progression and sets itself high environmental objectives. We are committed to reduce our customers' CO2 emissions by 300 million tons annually and improve our own CO2 and water performance by 20% by fiscal 2011.
